Big Data is all the buzz
What is Big Data?
Big data is data sets that are so large they are difficult to analysis using relational databases or statistical tools. Essentially, it is exactly what is says it is ‘Really Big Data Sets.’
“Big data are high-volume, high-velocity, and/or high-variety information assets that require new forms of processing to enable enhanced decision making, insight discovery and process optimization” – Gartner
What does it mean for politics?
It is an extremely exciting time to be a political nerd. With the development of new technological tools, we now have the ability to work with and explore much larger data sets. As any political scientist or researcher will tell you, when you start working with larger data sets, more things are possible.
Working with commercial data vendors, we are able to augment data & integrate more data into our voter files. This allows Ozean to mine much deeper into the political data, and by doing this bigger data analysis, we can model more accurate predictive factors.
While few campaigns have truly experienced Big Data due to cost limitations, political operations are becoming Mini-Big Data operations.
These data operations allow for much larger and in-depth study and testing than traditionally provided to non-national campaigns.
